TCRWP Reading Institute PLUS Classroom Photos!

Thursday, August 20, 2015
The last few weeks have been quit hectic! This past week, I attended the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project's Reading Institute. It was a phenomenal experience to be among 1,200 educators on a mission to make all students proficient and lifelong readers.

Attending workshops and conferences always make me reevaluate my career and life choices. Where do I see myself in five years? What kind of teacher do I want to be for my students? Do I continue with my own education goals, or spend more time with my family? Maybe I should stop going to workshops......

I officially go back to work next Tuesday for New Teacher Orientation! I am actually thrilled to go back to work.... is that bad? I'm starting a new job at a new school and every experience I've had so far is like a dream. Last year was so difficult that I really considered leaving the profession. I had that thought, "If this is teaching, than maybe I'm not cut out for it". Although I haven't started the school year officially, I've attended several workshops and professional development opportunities and each one is better than the last. Everyone is happy to be there, and happy to welcome me aboard.

I have had the change to pop into my classroom a few times to organize and label. Slowly but surely, progress is happening!

These gorgeous labels, from Kristen over at Ladybug Teacher Files are really a time saver and make my classroom look too cute! The compliments have started already.

Some other things I've been working on are my bulletin boards, but it's so hard hanging that paper on your own! Luckily, yesterday I had a buddy! {Thank you Ms. Robinson}

Aren't they cute! Plain and not finished, but so cute! The top one is right when you walk in, so announcements, lunch menu and the calendar will go here.
The second board is for student work. It will be my Wall of Awesomeness! Can't wait to finish it....

I also took my family to the Renaissance Faire in New York and it was so amazing, we will definitely be back next year in costume! My step son got the coolest bow and arrow, he was beyond excited. All of the kids had a marvelous time, and the food was so delicious!

I've had a very excited last few weeks, but the real excitement is about to begin! Can't wait for 2015-2016 school year.... It's going to be my year.

August Pick 3 Pinterest Party {Linky}

Tuesday, August 4, 2015
I am linking up with the wonderful Marissa from Inspired Owl's Corner for the Pick 3 Pinterest Party! Fun fun!!

Inspired Owl's Corner

Last night during the #tptchat on Twitter {Sunday nights from 8-9pm EST} I tweeted that I learn more from other bloggers, TpT, and Pinterest than I do from any PD.... So as I post my top pinterest picks I remember that little tidbit from yesterday {still true}

Ok, I know I can't stop talking, tweeting, and raving about Kristen from Ladybug's Teacher Files  Number Labels but seriously I am so happy with my purchase. At the moment, things look like this:

But soon, very soon, they will look like my top pinterest pick! I ordered the drawers from Really Good Stuff, I'm just waiting for the order to arrive. Yes it does feel like Christmas when I get new teacher stuff.....

Pick 2 is a Back to School Night Freebie from Kristine over at Young Teacher Love {One of my favorite bloggers!} She has free open house documents and I love this idea... It gives you a chance to meet parents and chat a bit while the other parents are going around the room filling out the proper forms! Plus I really feel these little things give parents a great first impression. I can't wait to try this!

Pick 3 is from Second Grade Sugar and Spice and I have two stools in my classroom that are a bit blah see....
Terrible picture but you get the idea.... I'm just dying to spray paint these a bright color! So I will be reading Miss DeCarbo's blog post {link above} to see how to get this done before my kiddos come....

It would be awesome if you followed me on Pinterest {click here} to see all of the things I pinned besides my top 3!

Countdown for 2015-2016 school year is on!

August Currently 2015

Sunday, August 2, 2015

Well last month was obvious late because of my wedding {still can't believe I'm married} but this month is like the final countdown for the new school year. I go back to work in a few weeks and I'm uber excited to go to the Teachers College Reading Institute in two weeks!

I am so excited to be linking up with  Oh' Boy 4th Grade for the August Currently.... It really makes me think about how little time is left before I meet my new kiddos!

Now onto my August Currently....

It's almost like Spring cleaning when August comes around in my house... My {new} husband and I are both teachers so when the school year starts the last thing we want to do is reorganize our closet or clean out the basement. August is our time to make sure our house is relatively organized and the kids' rooms are packed with new school uniforms.
Beyonce really gets me motived to clean and file! Hubby doesn't mind it too much...

I am IN LOVE with the Numbered Label set from Ladybug's Teacher Files! It really saves me so much time and energy which is my sanity really..... I can get everything ready to go without knowing how many students I have {which I don't know} or names {really, no idea}.  I mean I could have made a few labels myself but this set is so well done with coordinating clip art for subjects that I broke down and picked it up!

I will be using the pink plastic folders {Big Lots .50} for the homework folders since they are more durable and I love the cute binder clip art!

I will be using the blue folders for my math folders and its pretty clear with the calculator clip art!

So my son decided that syrup goes on the couch..... Does anyone know how to get syrup stains out of a fabric couch???? Terrible twos were nothing compared to tantrum threes....

I desperately want the GBC ProClick Desktop Binding Machine because what teacher doesn't like new ways to organize!!! This really gets me excited because I just downloaded Kristine's {Young Teacher Love4th Grade Morning Work and I would love to make Morning Work books for my new kiddos. I want to put them together now, in August, and bam! I have Morning Work for the whole year... Ahh the dream....

I purchased a few new books bins and baskets for my classroom from Really Good Stuff..... and it still hasn't shipped yet. I can't wait to get them in so I can label them and finish up my classroom....

For my B2S RAK, I found A LOT of blue folders.... Enough for my entire team and I love helping out a fellow coworker {especially when I'm the new teacher} I will be starting at a new school this year and I am sooo nervous! I'm the new kid on a very established team and I want to make a good impression. Folders is just the beginning......

Side note:
I was able to pick up these awesome pencil boxes for .50 each at Staples! I love when they have their deals of the week because I always pick up something..... Last week they had these on sale from $2.49 to $.50 each and I picked up a bunch. I can't wait to place a label on these and fill them up with a few goodies for my kiddos....

If anyone has done the Teachers College Reading or Writing Summer Institute I would love to hear your thoughts! I am so excited to be attending this summer....
